Panorama Analysis

Panorama

Codes & Conventions

The Panorama Episode that I had watched was a Documentary based on a fundamental school, in England. The Documentary used observational footage of the schools day-to-day life.

The observational footage that was displayed included arguments involving students and teachers. This would be evidential to the prospect of the enforcement of the documentary’s message.

The Documentary uses a variety of fact and figures that are explained within a voice over, covering the qualitative & quantitative research of the schools factual information.

A Female presenter, performs the voice over in the documentary, to include the relative tone towards the certain subject that is being covered. The voice of a Female presenter comes a cross as a more warming and caring vibe. Which would be more fluid with the certain subject other than a Male presenter’s voice.

The Males voice would be more immerse in a documentary about War, Geography or Vehicles.

The documentary also uses sequences and cut-aways in a fluent and efficient way.

They use the majority of cut-away in the sections of the voice over within the documentary. They collaborate both cut-away and voice over to create an overview to explain the facts and figures.

One of the main elements that was used in this documentary, was interviews. The interviews that Panorama imported in their documentary, included key people of the subject.

The key people that were displayed in the interviews came down to the Head Master and various teachers that had bonds and guidance's towards the students. The documentary also had shown interviews of students, that had disabilities or had been bullied and students that had problems with learning and more loud mouthed.

Panorama had interviewed these certain people to create an understanding of what the school is about and it's learning, and focuses on the opinions of the students and teachers to obtain different perspectives of each sides of the fence.

Bullying Questionnaire

Bullying Questionnaire

I had created a Questionnaire for Quantitative research of the certain subject. Which was bullying, I went around the college asking students aged 16 - 18.

The chart displays the amount of answers that are gathered and counted within  figures. The question, "Have you ever been bullied?".

The majority of people said 'Yes'. The figures showed, that there were 6 people that did and 4 that didn't.

The Bar chart shows how many prevented bulling. The majority of people that prevented bullying was, 3 and 7 that didn't prevent bulling.

The Bar chart displays that the majority of people have witnessed bulling, 9 people said they have witnessed bulling and 1 that hasn't.

The information gathered here, shows that 100% of the people prevented bulling by taking the situation into their own hands.

The Pie chart shows that majority of people were bullied in the concept of verble bulling. 2 of the people out of the ten, were bullied by the concept of physical, whilst 1 was bullied by Cyber bulling.

Analysing 'The Times'

The Times News

The Times News, is a british news corporation that targets the Upper middle class, Middle class, Lower middle class and non-working class - Pensioners. The Audience's age group for the times would be focused on age 25 - 70 years of age.

The Times uses an old fashioned british royal look, for their presentation of their news paper. The certain font and pictures are toned in a dull and basic style, which makes the presentation look serious and mature.

The language they use is formal to suit the certain working class their audience are. The headlines that the times uses, are basic descriptions of high vocabulary headlines, to inform the audience of what the certain article is based on.

1.1 Market research: internet search for commercial research companies

Market Research

For this task I had to collect certain information of Media commercial research organisations. These corporations gather research of target audiences. I needed to write a summary of the services that they offer and their contact details.

The corporations that I had discovered were:
  • BARB
  • RAJAR
  • National Readership Survey
  • Kantar
  • IMDb
  • Euro Monitor International
  • Ipsos Mori
